INTEGRATION OF ICT IN CLASSROOM TEACHING/LEARNING PRACTICES

Integrating ICT into the teaching and learning process is in line with global 21st Century Education Trends, and also the Education Digital Agenda Strategy 2021–2025 was developed to further support integration of ICT in education programs.

The STIAfrica ICT program intends to empower and support teachers and learners in the use of ICT devices, programs and packages. It is meant to support the teacher in the implementation of learning outcomes while increasing learner’s attention in class and creating more interest in lesson subject matter.

Over the last two decades, there has been a rapid growth in access and spread ICT which has come with a wide range of infrastructure and services most of which are convenient instructional tools for a modern times teacher.

Whereas it is true that schools in some areas, do not have the devices or infrastructure needed for integration of ICT in education, the major challenge being faced in the current digital era is the development of proper methodologies of using the available ICT tools to complement traditional teaching and learning methods still employed by most teachers today

It is with this challenge in mind that STIAfrica initiated a comprehensive ICT program to retooling teachers on different ICT skills required for its integration in the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning (Digital Pedagogy).

What are the objectives of the ICT program?

•  To equip teachers with basic skills for integrating ICT into the teaching and learning processes
•  To develop ICT tools and packages that can be easily incorporated into the practical pedagogies of teaching/learning.
•  To support the adoption of ICT in the implementation of the school curricula.
•  To develo a Teacher Support Center for digital learning continuity and peer-to-peer learning.
