According to a National Learning Assessment Report by Uwezo, household assessment to test children’s basic literacy and numeracy skills conducted between August and September 2021 revealed that a staggering 50.7 per cent of children who were in primary three could not identify letters of the alphabet and therefore are categorized as non-readers, while 31.3 per cent of the same group of learners could not attempt simple numeracy tasks

These are worrying statistics since poor early grade levels affect the foundation of education. In addition, learners who do not learn at their right age are most likely to drop out of the school completely before reaching Primary seven. It is with this in mind that the STIAfrica team made innovations in ECD to address these challenges.
Pre and Lower Primary Literacy and Numeracy kits
The ECD literacy kit is an enriched set of materials that a teacher can use to teach learners. The materials are made from safe local materials that are durable and ideal for learners with special needs. Games are the best way of learning when compared to traditional methods of instruction which create negative energy and make learning a chore. As well as fostering social and emotional learning, games make learning interesting, fun and participatory and learners are more motivated to pay attention.
The STIAfrica Games for Learning Kit is a package that contains unique materials for learners to play as they learn. It is based on the learning areas in pre-primary framework and lower primary curriculum, and thus can be made use of for learners from 0-10 years. It is approved and evaluated by NCDC
